"Plug it!" thought Floris van Bommel and then he created an exclusive sneaker for his favourite metal band Textures. "I thought it’d be cool to help them promote the release of their album 'Dualism'." To provide extra promotion for the sneaker, Textures played an explosive showcase at the Floris van Bommel shop on 23 August 2011.
In the spring of 2012, Floris will appear in a campaign with actor Daniel Brühl. A 'Floris van Bommel für Daniel Brühl' shoe is to be launched in Germany, where Daniel is a megastar. The proceeds of the sale of this shoe are destined for the German AIDS foundation. Among film buffs, Daniel Brühl is known for his roles in, among others, 'Goodbye Lenin', 'The Bourne Ultimatum', 'Inglorious Bastards' and 'Intruders' which also featured Clive Owen and Dutch actress Carice van Houten.
The Radio 1 programme BNNtoday starts every broadcast at 20.30 hrs. with 3 'radio tweets'. Short pre-recorded messages from, at least according to BNN, interesting Dutch people. A Radio 1 variety of people from Dutch celebrity lawyer, Gerard Sprong, to actor/dancer, Jan Kooiman, record messages every week. Every Wednesday it is Floris’s turn to let it all out.
FD Young Entrepeneur
FD young Entrepreneur is an initiative set up by 'Financieel Dagblad' and aimed at start-up entrepreneurs. Floris has been a member of the expert panel ever since the platform (a website, a magazine and events) was launched (no kiddin’). At irregular intervals Floris replies to questions submitted by readers.
Geert Hoste, stand-up comedian, phenomenon, and the conscience of Flanders, never goes on stage without wearing patent leather shoes. In an interview he once complained that it was so difficult to find good-looking patent leather shoes. That problem was solved easily... For a few years now, Floris van Bommel has had the honour to supply the feet of Geert Hoste with fitting patent leather shoes. In February 2008 Geert Hoste opened the Van Bommel flagship store in Antwerp.
For 10 years every issue of Esquire magazine has contained a list somewhere in the back of the members of Esquire's 'Van Bommel footwear club'. The footwear club consists of a select group of prominent Van Bommel dealers. The most frequently asked question put to Floris in interviews is “Where do you get your inspiration from?”. Usually he mutters something inarticulately and incomprehensibly, the more so because he does not want to reveal his sources. The real answer to this question is of course: 'From Esquire magazine!'
In the spring of 2007, in a campaign developed by Van Bommel, Rutger Hauer addressed the general people. He asked them to pay attention to the still poignant global AIDS problem. Rutger Hauer regularly initiates projects with his 'Starfish Association’, which raise awareness of or provide direct help to Third World AIDS victims. The leather and shoe museum
A must-visit for every shoe aficionado. The leather and shoe museum has an impressive permanent collection to which a variety of constantly changing exhibitions are added. Recently Van Bommel sponsored the 'Beth Levine, first lady of shoes' exhibition – an exhibition on the most discussed shoe designer of the previous century. Schoenfabriek van Bommel is a regular sponsor of the Dutch leather and shoe museum.
In 2009 and 2010 Timberland and Floris van Bommel made the ultimate 'make love, not war' statement. Two shoe brands jointly made one shoe model, the 'Timberland & Floris van Bommel' shoe. At first the idea was to make it a once-only project. However, also due to the enthusiasm of Jeffrey Schwartz, the owner and CEO of Timberland and the grandson of Timberland founder Nathan Schwartz, the collaboration eventually lasted for more than 2 years.-- Press release Download--
Floris had been an ardent OzarkHenry fan for many years already when Piet Goddaer, the master brain behind this Belgian band, said in an interview that his dream was to, one day, invent the perfect slipper. It did not take long for Floris to meet up with Piet to make his dream come true. The next summer Piet had his perfect slipper. On 1 December 2010, World AIDS Day, the Floris van Bommel dealers in Germany launched the 'Floris van Bommel für Philipp Lahm' shoe. It is a black patent leather shoe of which all profits went to the German AIDS Foundation. In everyday life Philipp Lahm is the captain of Bayern Munich and a player of the German National Squad.
